Lim Guan Eng, the DAP secretary-general has hit out at Kedah’s PAS led government in light of the state’s DAP division quitting the coalition there saying that PAS did not respect the DAP. He said “Kedah DAP has never sought any titles or Datukships but has been unhappy with the lack of respect accorded by PAS to DAP in Kedah, unlike the respect accorded to PAS in Penang. I would normally oppose such moves personally, especially when based on a single issue and if there is still room to redress and correct the situation. However, the desperate nature of the situation and the breakdown of trust between the Kedah DAP and the Mentri Besar, who is from PAS, warrants a central executive committee (CEC) meeting to endorse or oppose this withdrawal,”

Abdul Fattah Harun, the election director of the Kelantan PAS claims that the candidate wanted by the people of Manik Urai is not someone who has to be highly qualified. He said “Unlike a Member of Parliament who shoulders much responsibility at federal level, an assemblyman's duties is more constituency-bound. The people of Manik Urai are also not mulling over it because a people's representative (Wakil rakyat) need not be a highly qualified person compared with an MP who represents his constituency at the federal level. Kelantan officers are mostly people oriented, even exco. As such, the people of Manik Urai can accept any candidate,"

The cracks within the Kedah’s Pakatan Rakyat coalition seemed to be widening and the ruling government is in the verge of collapse. According to Thomas Su, the chairman of the Kedah DAP, the ruling government is weak in handling racial problems in the state while Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak, the Menteri Besar is well aware but not sure what DAP is looking for. He said "I don't understand what the DAP wants. The DAP always says that everyone must respect the law but at the same time the DAP tries to protect people who break the law. If the DAP were not interested in being part of the state government it was for the apex leadership of the party to decide.”

Thomas Su, the chairman of the Kedah state DAP said that they are pulling out of the coalition in the state as the PAS led state government is not practicing equality among the people of the state with the latest issue involving the demolition of an illegal pig slaughterhouse. He said “Although the slaughterhouse was operating on land belonging to the Alor Setar City Council, the state government had the power to postpone demolition work. This would have given more time for the Kedah Pigs Trader and Slaughterer Association to find a new site. Another issue that we feel the state failed to handle amicably was the 50% housing quota for bumiputras in the state,”
