The government’s project to implement WIMAX in the country will start by the third quarter of the year. The project is undertaken by local MSC Malaysia status company, Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd. According to Michael Lai, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, the commercial rollout of the broadband services will start then. He added that for the past 2 months, the company has since been making trial runs on some locations like the Kuala Lumpur City Center, Subang, Sentul and Setapak. He said “If everything goes as planned, our WiMax launch will be the world’s first large-scale deployment of an 802.16e 2.3-gigahertz WiMax network outside Korea,” He also said that there will be various applications offered under the WiMax umbrella like surveillance over WiMax, connectivity over WiMax, voice and video over WiMax. He said “The service will be formally launched once we complete our user trials and are happy with its consistency and performance at various locations in the Klang Valley,” -Zen, Malaysia Today
