There will soon be a new mobile phone service producer in Malaysia. going with the prefix of 010, it will be hosted by XOX Com Sdn Bhd. The company which was awarded the prefix by the MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) announced that they will be rolling out their services in the next 3 months since obtaining the license to be Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in May. An MVNO operates where they buy network capacity from a major operator and then use it to further offer it under their own brand. There is yet to have any news on the pricing for XOX but although they would have purchased the capacity from the main players Maxis, Celcom and Digi, they will still be going on the level competitive ground with them. According to Ng Kok Heng, the CEO and Managing Director of XOX, they are in the process of fine tuning their business model “This is to ensure that XOX is a solid and comprehensive mobile operator that will benefit consumers in every way possible,†At the moment, Celcom is tied up with 3 other MVNOs namely, Tune Talk, Redtone International and Merchantrade Asia while U Mobile is a new MVNO in the market.
