Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamed whose real name is Mahathir s/o Iskandar Kutty is a figure who needs no introduction. He is the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia which he held for 22 years. From 1981 to 2003, he is the country's longest serving Prime Minister as well as in the whole of Asia. Tun Dr Mahathir, or in short Dr M has very much contributed, as the leader of the country the modernization of the country, promoting his ideology of Vision 2020 where he aimed to turn the country into an industrial one by then. He put forward plans that were supposed to be implemented in stages in order to achieve that, most of which was done during his term in office. This however has changed much ever since his retirement and the taking over of the office by his successor. Dr M was also the first Prime Minister who came from a social background whereas all the Prime Ministers before him had royal or elite ties. During his term as the PM, he was one who won the hearts of many for making his stand against the western values and culture and most prominently for seeing the country through during the economic crisis. Born in December 20, 1925, Dr Mahathir hailed from the state of Kedah, at the capital of Alor Star, whose father was a school teacher. His father was Indian who migrated from Kerala, who married a malay lady and sold banana fritters during the second world war. His early education was through vernacular school and at the Sultan Abdul Hamid College in the city. After that he was educated in Singapore at the King Edward VII Medical College. During that time, he wrote in his contributions under the name “Che Det†to the Straits Times, a name he uses in his blog today. After graduation, he returned to Malaysia where he became a medical officer with the Malayan government. He then married his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who was his colleague and classmate in 1956. Subsequently, he started his own medical practice. Together he had five children, three boys and two girls. Two of his sons went on to be involved in politics and corporate sectors while his daughter Marina Mahathir is known for her involvement as an AIDs activist as well as her NGO stance in the local media. Dr Mahathir's political involvement is filled with events and significance where he started being active in 1945. He joined the Umno (United Malays National Organization) in 1946. He was first elected into the Parliament in the 1964 general elections via the Kota Setar Selatan seat more than 60% majority votes. The following elections (1969)saw him losing the seat by 989 votes after declaring that he did not need to win through Chinese votes. After the riots that took place in 13 May 1969, Dr M publicly criticized the Prime Minister then Tunku Abdul Rahman, for favouring the Chinese in handling his government which led to the riots. For doing that, he was expelled from Umno. At this time, he wrote a book 'The Malay Dilemma' which he explain the reasons of the May 13 riots but was banned by Tunku. Some of his rationale though eventually was used by the preceding Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak when he constructed the New Economic Policy (NEP). Dr M then rejoined Umno in 1972 and subsequently appointed Senator a year later. He then gave up that post to contest in the general elections, standing in the Kubang Pasu constituency. Through that winning ticket, he became the Minister of Education. He then went on to become the vice-president of Umno, a post he held with 2 others. The Prime Minister then, Tun Hussein Onn subsequently appointed him as the Deputy Prime Minister before he was given the Minister of Trade and Industry portfolio as well in 1978. In July 1981, Tun Hussein Onn resigned as the Prime Minister, subsequently handing the country's top post to Dr M. Significant events. Some of the more controversial happenings under Dr mahathir's leadership include removing of the veto power and the royal immunity from prosecution. Before he took on this action, passing of any bill of law required royal consent but with what he took on, royal assent is considered legal after a 30 days period. Dr Mahathir Mohamad was also known to be responsible for the removal of Tun Salleh Abas, the Lord President of the Supreme Court together with 3 other supreme court justices prior to the investigation of misconduct hearing of Umno, the party that he is also the president.

Mamak Mahathir is the reason why the country is in this state of affairs.If you rule a country for over 20 years and are extremely repressive and control every facet of the nation(ie police,media,government departments) then people just give up hope.This meglamaniac thought by building bigger and bigger he could be remembered as the greatest Malaysian of all time.But just down the road from KLCC there were people living in estates with no piped water in their homes.This is a man who was Indian but he would even swear on his mothers life that he wasnt.He wanted to be more malay than a malay could ever be.He became a racist facist p*g forgetting who he really was.He lied to himself from the beginning of his public life to the day he retired.When people challenged him to be fair honest and not rape and pillage the rakyat he would create lies about them.This man is so shameless that he still has not repented his sins even at such an elderly age.Which makes be conclude that he still thinks that he is the greatest Malaysian(malay) of all time.

Tun ialah seorang yg 'extra ordinary' bagi saya. Apa yg dia lakukan utk pembangunan Malaysia adalah amat membanggakan. Pemikirannya adalah beyond average people. Kita mungkin masih menggunakan 'jalan tanah merah' lagi sekarang kalau bukan kerana jasa2 nya (partially). Contoh; Putrajaya, MSC, Sepang, etc..Semua ini menjana kepada ekonomi negara. Dunia mungkin masih memandang enteng kepada Malaysia kalau bukan dengan keberanian & kelantangan hujah2 nya. Sedarlah, sepatutnya kita orang Melayu berbangga seorang personaliti ini mengaku dirinya Melayu. Ingin menjadi salah seorang daripada kita. Kurangkanlah budaya bercerita di kedai kopi. Kesenangan, kemajuan, kemudahan dan pembangunan yang kita nikmat dok guna tetiap hari asalnya banyak dari idea TDM. korang tak fikir kita, the way he's thinking. Some of the ladies here don’t seem to know what they are talking about. A mamak is a mamak and by just admitting he is Malay can he turn to one? Get the fact rights about this and I hope that no one claims Munshi Abduallah as Malay after this. Certain parts in our history are also as corrupted as BN/UMNO themselves where all of a sudden a white man can become Malay and vice versa. TDM manipulated well due to his features and that’s what I call smart move. While I don’t deny he has done a good job in certain areas, he has also done his part in neglecting certain areas for a very long time by giving importance to one particular group in the country which eventually has started to be an issue today. He has escaped but Pak Lah became the victim, a weak victim who doesn’t even dare to stand up against the Umnoputras who tend to whack him left and right. TDM knows well that his survival is based on championing the Malay rights (only GOD knows this) and et-cetera even though he might have purposely forgotten his roots in this country. He talks well as I have listened to some of his speeches and I salute him for the way he manipulates the people around him be it in the kampong or in the city but people don’t forget easily on his systematic way in hindering the minorities to come up and I’m proud of that when I sit and think about it today. Its 2008 and there are still people who wants to be on the wheelchair and spoon fed till six feed underground fearing that the minorities will overcome them and the still believe in rights and supremacy as if that without this they are totally screwed. Embarrassing!

Its not a question of Melayu bercakaran, its a question of a simple intelligence quotient. A person with just some basic primary education can understand clearly the developments that took place in Malaysia during the past 30 years. A concerted and continous effort to undermine the countrys riches was the order of the day. Only some chosen few seemed to benefit from this deplorable plan. Whats the use of seeing our country developed so well but you find people so dependent on corruption to get things going. There was even one instant where during a CNN interview a certain leader dared to declare that a little bit of corruption is harmless.

Those who still belittle Dr M must have been born after May 1969. If they are born before tha than they will know how was the Malays at that time. My late father who speaks good English was only a driver for the Mat Salleh Tuan. He tried to give his children the best education with his meagre salary. Those days there are no such things as Housing or car loans, Busniess loans and schloraships for the Malays were limited. The non Malays esepcially the Chinese were still the economic powers during those days. heir children were able to go overseas to further their educations. Thos days 'overseas' meant Sigapore.

As I was growing up, I realy admired National leaders of the world. I love to read biographies of leaders like Lincoln, Gandhi, Tuanku Abdul Rahman etc. When I remember Mahathir, I see a Liar (a blatant one at that), manupulator, ruthless dictator, a corrupt person, glory seeker and lately one who talks nonesence. I'm ashamed of him. A statesman don't behave like that.

Untuk menilai kepimpinan YAB Tun, saya rasa orang seperti saya tidak dapat menilai Kepimpinan Dr M kerna beliau adalah seorang Pemimpin negara yang sungguh BERANI TEGAS DAN BERTANGGUNG JAWAB. TDM was an idola for me during my school days and i will fight back anyone who says bad things about him. But when i grew and exposed to life, to experience life with the rakyat i understood TDM had made the people stupid and dum..Just imagine the number of bumiputra who are poor/hardcore poor.. The only one rich is umnoputras not the majority bumiputras. I'm not a malay, but i feel sad for their conditions.So i have less to complain as the bumiputras itself is not been treated well.
