Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said that more seed banks are needed to help finance the increasing demands of the horticulture industry and so far, only the Sime Darby seed bank has come forward to do help in supplying the seeds for the agricultural projects in the Northern Corridor Economic Region. He said "But it is good that even here (Taman Merdeka), there are growers who want to produce their own seeds. Just now I asked one why he did not pick some of the ladies' fingers which were ready for harvesting from his vegetable garden, and he said he needed them for the seeds. The Green Earth Programme must be carried out earnestly and not seasonally or sporadically, like what is described by the Malay proverb, 'hangat-hangat tahi ayam'. To ensure that the programme is successfully implemented, I will monitor it myself without anyone realising it. I will do the spot checks without the reporters or growers knowing. I will pass by in a car without my driver, as I will be driving it," He added that "They should fill up the vacant land available by growing vegetables, 'ulam' and fruit trees. And I hope the residents' efforts will be emulated by others," -Zen, Malaysia Today
