Lee Chong Wei, the 26 year old national singles badminton player who managed a silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics have been awarded the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) by the Penang Yang di-Pertua Negri, Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas. The award carries the title Datuk. According to the Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng, "Even though Malaysians were disappointed that he failed to win the gold medal, we are proud at his singular achievement which has brought joy to both state and country. The state government hopes that this recognition will spur him on to break more records and achieve greater success to win greater glory for both Penang and Malaysia,"

Chong Wei, who will stand to receive a cash bonus of RM300,000 as well as a pension of RM3,000 said "I thought that maybe, if I win the gold medal, I might be given Datukship. But no, I never expected it for the silver and was very surprised. My thanks to the Penang state for fully supporting me,"

Congratulation! Datuk Lee Chong Wei. You deserved this recognition. But I would like to suggest please give that recognition to Misbun Sidek too. He was runner up to Liem Swee King in the wolrd championship one time ago. He too deserve that.

I think Yap Kim Hock, Cheah Soon Kit, Rashid Sidek, Foo Kok Keong, Wong Mew Choo, Jalani Sidek, Razif Sidek, Choong Tan Fook, Lee Wan Wah, Zakry, Rahman Sidek and all Those represent Malaysia should be bestow the DAtukship and don't forget to bestow the entire BAM official "Tun"

Eventually every sportsman and sportswoman are Datuk/Tan Sri.

If a peanut who merely sat in a spacecraft and went on a joy ride can get a Datukship, I can't see why Lee Chong Wei doesn't deserve one.

Anyway, well done Datuk Lee Chong Wei. Please fill in a PKR application form when time permits....

What is Datuk? It can't help him financially.
I think help this poor Lee who hail from poor family by awarding cash rewards. He swaet like hell carried the national flag and face all sorts of blame when he failed to win.
He should deserve more than a Datuk and the RM 300,000.00 and RM 3,000.00 monthly pension fund.

ya la.....mananya tak lemah industri sukan malaysia....banyak sangat sampah jalanan sekarang ni.....suruh belajar baik-baik di buat buat demonstrasi jalanan....suruh dia pergi buat sport lagilah tayah harap. yang selebihnya tak habih habih dengan nak cermin diri sendiri...yalah nak cantik dan hensom macam si saifool tu....manalah tau nanti ada orang suka kat bontotnya...

Daripada bagi Dato baru kita ni pencen mahal n rm300 ribu baik guna duit tu untuk bantu rakyat. Tambahan pulak kita ni tgh gawat ekonomi. Klu ada 10 orang lain dapat pingat, 10 orang tu pun nak bagi benda yang sama? Habis la duit klu gini. Time sekarang ni pun masih nak membazir.. tak faham aku kerajaan sekarang ni. I think you deserve this title as a reward, with this more youth will participate in sports and in the future Malaysia is gonna have more atheletes like you...
