Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the deputy prime minister said that the widely anticipated NEM (New Economic Model) which is set to be announced at the end of the month would be a good instrument which could break the racial barrier where it will create a better future for the company as well as break down prejudices and racial sentiments among the various races in Malaysia.

500 arrests by MACC last year PDF Print E-mail

Datuk Zakaria Jaafar, the deputy chief commissioner (Management and Professionalism) of the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) reported that some 500 people have been arrested last year who are linked with corruption. He said that out of the 500, 38.2% or 191 of them are civil servants where 29 of them are from a professional group while 2 of them are from higher management. The rest are divided among civilians (107), 180 from the private sector while politicians arrested amounted to 22.

Myanmar workers who were fired from a restaurant with their passports withheld by former employers finally get their hands on the documents again following a meeting with the management recently. However, another problem arises as the former employer, Jogoya Restaurant located in Starhill now refused to pay the February salaries.

Pharmacy enforcement unit officers together and police raided several outlets in shopping centres for selling illegal sexual stimulants and sex toys to the public. It is learnt that students are some of the shops most frequent patrons.

After much speculation and rumours, Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, the former president of MCA has announced that he will be contesting in the upcoming party elections at the end of the month. Saying that he was responding to the calls from members who were concerned and believed that he is the best person to lead them, he said that “I believe that their calls are motivated primarily by their genuine concern and love for the party in order to see a quick end to the damaging factional in-fighting which is going on. To all these members who care and love the party, I say I hear you, loud and clear.”
