The IGP (Inspector-General of Police) said that soon it will be a requirement for police officers in the force who are below the Assistant Superintendent to carry out duties like street patrolling and others outside the office which means that only those who are Deputy Superintendents and above would be working in the offices as part of the restructuring of the police force.
He said "If the restructuring is approved by the Government, we will start the move in Bukit Aman where officers with the rank of ASP and below will be given out of office assignments to increase the number of personnel on duty outside as a focus towards reducing crime. We have also identified 4,000 positions in the police force nationwide, where general officers will replace the uniformed officers working in the office. The force would also be recruiting 14,000 new personnel and officers this year as well as changing their training module. This year alone, 23,000 personnel and police officers had carried out patrolling duties in the country, assisted by the civil defence and Rela to curb street crime.”
