M Kulasegaran, the vice-president of DAP has called on the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to organize a national referendum on restoring the local government polls which was put on hold in 1964 due to the then Indonesian confrontation against Malaysia. Throwing the challenge at Najib, he said “If the harping on his "Performance now and people first" theme is to be believed, the people's interest must be above the BN's moves to dodge such polls. In fact, Najib should fulfil the promise made by then Alliance government to hold local elections after the end of Indonesian confrontation which has not been realised until now by the BN administration,"

The former Chief Minister of Sarawak Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub spoke to local news portal Malaysian Insider and said that Kelantan would not be eligible to claim oil royalties off its coasts because they cannot prove that its territorial waters extended beyond three nautical miles. Unlike Sarawak, where the state was entitled to the royalties since 1954, when Queen Elizabeth declared that Sarawak’s state territorial waters extended beyond the three-nautical-mile limit. He was holding office in 1974 when the Petroleum Development Act was enacted.
