Lee Wei Keat, the Information and Communication Bureau chairman of MCA has fanned the fire of the current political crisis in Kedah saying that the quitting of DAP from the PAS-led government is just a political gimmick. He has called on the DAP to fully quit from the Pakatan Rakyat alliance if they are serious. He said “As part of the Pakatan Rakyat government, not only has DAP failed to prevent the pig abattoir from being demolished by PAS, but it is also acting like an Opposition party in Kedah by protesting the state government’s actions. This stance has not helped resolve existing problems and reveals that Pakatan Rakyat parties do not cooperate with each other, nor do they keep each other informed of what individual parties are doing within the state administration. The MCA urges the entire Chinese community to stand behind their brethren in Kedah and firmly say ‘no’ to the PAS government in Kedah. All Malaysians should see clearly the real motives of PAS and they should not tolerate such an act,”

Judges from the Court of Appeal Justices Abdull Hamid Embong, Abu Samah Nordin and Jefferey Tan Kok Wha has dismissed the appeal by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to have the sodomy trial moved from the Sessions Court to the High Court. Anwar was said to be ‘disgusted’ by the decision. Abdull Hamid said “Considering all the factors, we feel that it would be better that the High Court deal with this charge against him. The assurance given by the former Prime Minister that the Public Prosecutor (Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail) will not take any part in his prosecution is essentially a firm statement that he will get a fair and open trial. To us, the choice of forum of this trial is inconsequential,”

Lim Guan Eng, the DAP secretary-general has hit out at Kedah’s PAS led government in light of the state’s DAP division quitting the coalition there saying that PAS did not respect the DAP. He said “Kedah DAP has never sought any titles or Datukships but has been unhappy with the lack of respect accorded by PAS to DAP in Kedah, unlike the respect accorded to PAS in Penang. I would normally oppose such moves personally, especially when based on a single issue and if there is still room to redress and correct the situation. However, the desperate nature of the situation and the breakdown of trust between the Kedah DAP and the Mentri Besar, who is from PAS, warrants a central executive committee (CEC) meeting to endorse or oppose this withdrawal,”
