Varsity to take action against Selangor MB 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 4

(The Star) - Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will take legal action against Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for refusing to apologise for proposing the varsity admit non-bumiputra students.

Vice-chancellor Datuk Seri Prof Ibrahim Abu Shah said Khalid should apologise for making the statement as it was not only false but unethical and degrading to the university.

“We are not hard-headed on this issue but the statement is 100% wrong. We can accept criticism if what was said were true,” he told a media conference.

Khalid had proposed that UiTM admit 10% non-bumiputra students and claimed that its students were unfriendly, of poor quality and non-competitive.

The statement angered UiTM students nationwide who held demonstrations to protest the proposal.

Khalid refused to apologise to UiTM, claiming he was not questioning the special rights of bumiputras nor the establishment of UiTM.

In Bukit Mertajam, Khalid said he would meet UiTM directors to explain his statement.

He said the matter had been blown out of proportion and could have been politically motivated to jeopardise PKR’s chances of winning the Permatang Pauh by-election.

“My proposal was purely aimed at broadening UiTM students' horizons,” he said at the Permatang Pauh by-election nomination centre.

“The International Islamic University (UIA) is a good example of how a similar proposal has worked well for its students.”

What a joke!
10% opening seats for non-Malays forbidden. Proposal for change is a taboo.
30% equity in Bursa Malaysia companies. What? This is a law, cannot question!
Last time when ex-PM criticized no one dared to make noise and hid their tails.
Now Abdul Khalid proposed only they barked to the court!
What a big contrast!
