12 more hydroelectric dams move slammed
Wednesday, 23 July 2008 11:38 zen
Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, the Deputy minister of Energy, Water and Communications said that the state of Sarawak will be building an additional 12 hydroelectric dams so as to meet the future industrialization needs, a move protested by environmentalists. Gurmit Singh, the chairman of the Centre for Environmental Technology and Development Malaysia questioned “This is also a typical example of the ‘not in my backyard’ mentality where a country puts its polluting industries in other countries,”
Not really sure of what we should do with this ? Here is my 2 cents worth.
As all of us knows building the above means destruction of rain forest, but hydro power is cleaner and cheaper as compare to crude oil or nuclear alternative not to mention more environmental friendly in the long run.
So people what do you all think about this ? Should we or should we not ?
