Mansor Adabi Hassan, a committee member of the Kota Bahru Umno division said that they are not surprised if Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, their former chief joins the PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat). He said “Perhaps PKR is more suitable for him and he sees the party being stronger now, and I also know that he’s close to Anwar (PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim). Nobody can stop him from joining PKR, but I hope he will not do so as all that he has achieved is the result of Umno’s struggles,”

Petrol price drop before Hari Raya Haji

Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs said that another petrol price reduction will take place before Hari Raya Haji which falls on December 8. He said "Definitely before Hari Raya Haji. We are now facing an extraordinary situation where the price of diesel in the global market is higher than that for petrol and because of this, the government is still giving a subsidy of RM1.43 for per litre of diesel. We may discuss it at the next council meeting after Hari Raya Haji. But the traders have assured that the manufactured goods would be cheaper in the first quarter of next year,"

Bangunan Sultan Iskandar to be Msia's modern entry point - PM

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi officially opened the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, formerly the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex and said that it will become the modern entry point to the county where an estimated 9 million visitors are expected to frequent here yearly. He said "The building is not only a developmental effort but also forms an important symbol on the region's progress and potentials. It is a modern, efficient and attractive entry point, which will reflect the modernisation, efficiency and beauty of the Iskandar Development Region, Johor and certainly, Malaysia, to every foreign visitor and investor. The Royal Malaysia Police must ensure strict security for the building in the interest of the safety and comfort of the users and our country in general. We must prove, in fact reflect Malaysia's status not only as one of the developed countries but also having inhabitants who are friendly and courteous as well as highly civilised,"

Movement threatens to stalk S'gor MB and strip naked when meeting him

Some 8 Gerakan Reformis Rakyat Malaysia members from the ‘Dare to be Nude Squad’ have vowed to stalk Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, the Mentri Besar of Selangor and strip naked when they see him. Ramlan Abu Bakar, the president of the movement said “Our struggle is to keep the rental rate for government low-cost houses under the People’s Housing Scheme from going up. We wanted a police permit to strip in front of the State Secretariat as a sign of protest but we were denied it, so, now we will stalk the Mentri Besar and go butt naked when we get the chance. We will go naked to get the message across. Our act is to humiliate or embarrass the Mentri Besar for not keeping to his general election promises to help the low-income earners,”

Flood causes Univ Msia Terengganu to close for 1 day

Datuk Sulaiman Md Yasin, the vice-chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu said that the university has declared a one-day holiday after the offices and the lecture halls have been flooded. Cops looking for help in middle-aged man who was killed and dumped on highway

Tapah OCPD Supt Roslan Bek Ahmad said that the police is looking for anyone who can identify the middle-aged man who was killed and dumped on the North-South Expressway. He said “We hope that those with missing kin or friends would come forward to aid us on this matter. We also know that he is not Muslim and could possibly be of the Indian race. Foul play ruled out in death of Datuk Syed Alwi

Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar, said that in relation to the death of National laureate Datuk Syed Alwi Syed Hassna, the police have ruled out foul play in the initial post-mortem report. Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, the MP if Gua Musang said that to curb money politics, Umno to change its rules in order to allow the 3 million members to directly vote for their leaders. He said “Political will is not enough to curb money politics and amendments should be made to ensure that justice would not only be done, but also seen to be done. It is my belief that if money politics is not curbed, Umno and Barisan Nasional will lose in the next general election. Better security needed at Iskandar waters

Datuk Aziz Sapian, the Nusajaya assemblyman has called on better security along the waterways around Iskandar Malaysia. He said “Our neighbouring countries conduct patrols every day. Penang's Deputy CM1 denies rumour of being replaced

Mohamad Fairus Khairuddin, the Chief Minister 1 of Penang has denied rumours that he will be replaced and that there has been no indication from the PKR of such an incident. He said “From what I understand, it is only (Seberang Jaya assemblyman) Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah who has said so. I strongly believe that if there was going to be a change, I would be duly informed. If he wants to join the party, I am happy and welcome him but I don’t think he will replace me. Since day one of my appointment, certain quarters have been trying to pull me down. I am the youngest DCM in the history of Malaysian politics so of course there is jealousy. I was voted in by the people. They will not get rid of me because I am a fighter and I will never retreat,”

President of MPSP on leave pending investigations

Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang said that Farizan Darus, the president of the MPSP (Seberang Prai Municipal Council) is on leave as investigations on the council’s reserves are on-going. Datuk Supiah Md Yusof will be the acting president at the moment. Lim said “We will also investigate the loss of some RM50.3mil in annual allocation given to 21 state assemblymen and RM8.9mil to 24 MPSP councillors during the previous state government. We will also find out why the annual maintenance cost of RM800,000 for the council’s headquarters was awarded to Aseania Linear District Cooling system Sdn Bhd when the cost was too high,”

Law to protect ex-wives and children of men who defect payments

Noriah Kasnon, deputy minister of Women, Family and Community Development said that the ministry have provided the input on the issue of ex-husbands who default payment to their ex-wives and children for amendments for the law. She said “The Ministry did not have a special fund to help single mothers but could provide assistance to their children if the mother earned less than RM720 a month or was aged 60 and above. However, the Ministry, through the Women’s Development Department, has launched several programmes to help single mothers resolve problems after a divorce such as by linking them up with the state Islamic office, Syariah court, the National Registration Department, Legal Aid Bureau, the police and NGOs.”

Civil servants who threatened public tarnshing image - PM

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has hit out at civil servants who threatened members of the public who have complained against them for tarnishing the image of the entire civil service. He said “There are contractors who complain about the delays involved in the review of the costs of the projects awarded to them following the increase in the price of building materials, or of late payment. And when the complaints are channelled to the right people, the civil servants involved make threats against the complainants. This is an arrogant attitude and goes against our ethics of delivering service to the public. These contractors need fast assistance as they have commitments to fulfil under their contacts. How would the civil servants feel if they were treated this way?”

He added that “If said officer is not around, what’s wrong in taking and passing on letters and messages from members of public? We should not just understand our work procedures in order to be efficient, but to take care of our attitude and characters as well. We want to increase domestic consumption and further spur our economy so that our businesses can compete both globally and domestically. We have managed to achieve an average of 4.7% growth for the three-quarters of the year. For the last quarter, we should at least achieve 3.5%, which will give us an overall growth of 5% or even 5.5% for this entire year,”

Abolish vernacular schools - Mukhriz

Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir has called on the abolishment of vernacular schools and implementation of a single school system in the effort to unite all races. He said “The government should consider introducing only one school system with Bahasa Malaysia as the medium of instruction, except for Science and Mathematics which are already being taught in English. Of course, pupils should then be given the option to study their mother tongues. Under this system, the Malays will also have the option of studying other languages like Mandarin and Tamil and this will further boost unity among them,”
He added that “If they reject this suggestion, then they should explain why they are against it. How is it possible for them on one hand to talk about unity and question Malay rights, while on the other hand still insist on having a different school system for their race? If you want equal rights then you cannot have a different school sistem. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. If they insist on making statements on that issue, then do not be surprised if the Malays start talking about the economic supremacy of the non-Malays. Despite all that has been said on the issue of Malay supremacy, the Malays do not feel in any way superior or the master when it comes to the country’s economy,”

5% growth still possible - Najib

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the Finance Minister said that the country’s economy is still able to record a 5% growth this year if the last quarter records the minimum 1.4% growth. He said “This is of course based on two criteria: First, the stimulus package must be carried out effectively and second, the external environment does not deteoriate further.”

Zaid will be called to explain his presence at PKR congress

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the vice-president of Umno said Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, the former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office is expected to explain his presence the PKR Congress. He said “It appears he is lending his moral support to them. To me, this is showing his disloyalty to Umno. This is unforgivable. We will not be provoked. He’s a small guy...he is just wasting our time,”
